lenses

asked by lineshkp

55-200 or 300 is focal length of the lens, in simple words it is directly related to the magnification capability of the lens. Refer to the lens videos of the course for details - the 55-300 mm lens will give you more ability to zoom in compare to 55-200.

regarding lens and its features

asked by katena veerabhadrarao

Hi

Lens is basically used to control the image that's projected onto your imaging sensor, and ultimately what photos you are taking. There are several factors to be considered while selecting a lens such as Lens speed, focal length, focusing distance, image stabilization, brand, budget and many more.

answered by Twenty19Expert Team, [ Mar, 2015 ]

Hi Veerabhadra,

In addition to the above answer --
Lens is used to give direction to the light, in the camera the gathers the light from the entire scene and projects it on the sensor of the camera.

The factors you need to deal with while selecting the lens
1) Purpose - General, wildlife, Landscape, Portraits, Macro, Low light etc

2) Quality expectation - Professional, Ultra Professional, Hobby, (The lenses used by professionals are built for high quality and sharpness, etc.

3) Speed - 1.2 lens can shoot images in the night club but costs close to a lakh, but 1.8 lens costs just 6 to 7 thousand.

4) Fixed aperture or floating - a 70-200 lens with 4 to 5.6 aperture will change aperture as you zoom, and it is called floating, but fix aperture lens will maintain the selected aperture throughout the zoom range.

what is the diffrence between nikon 55-200 lens and nikon 55-300 lens

answered by lineshkp, [ Jun, 2015 ]

For general purpose - you should have one short and one long lens. A professional photographer generally choose the sharp lens - which are expensive. For entry level - I suggest - Retain your 18-55, buy one 50mm - 1.8, and one 70-300, or 50-200. 4-5.6.

Sensor

asked by VijayKumar

Full Frame Sensor is strictly for professional usage - you can consider full frame only if you are a Pro, own a studio or thinking seriously about getting into full time Professional Photography, or if your pockets and Bank a/c is flooding with money, or if you get a nice deal with used/2nd hand body. As an extension to your 2nd question, many sports and wedding photographers prefer the APS-C (non full frame) for the additional focal length - for long distance shooting, but not the entry level DSLR. While buying DSLR as a beginner you must keep these things in mind. 1) There are entry level DSLRs - with 100s of great features but average image quality. (Rs. 30k to 40k) 2) Mid-level DSLR, may not have fancy features but great image quality - we buy them only and only for image quality. (Rs.50k to Rs. 1lakh) 3) Pro-level DSLR. I do not care what feature and what's new - buy it only for Image quality, features come automatically (Rs. 1 lakh to 4.5 Lakh) One more important thing - Pro cameras need good lens or it may give you average image.

Exposure

asked by VijayKumar

The duration depends on the intensity of light, if there is lot of light then the image would quickly get exposed on the sensor, but if there is very little light or if the subject is poorly lit (low light) then the sensor needs the longer exposure timing to absorb more light, however - this whole process is handled by the Meter, and meter will tell you the time (shutter speed) required for the particular scene or subject. Please refer to the Metering Video. More than required light and time will turn the image into white patch, and less light or time will make it darker.

Blurred shot

asked by VijayKumar

The best way to control shutter speed is to shoot using the Shutter Priority mode; you set the shutter speed, and your camera will set the aperture for a perfect shot.
